In the never-ending search for reliable security across all digital platforms, facial recognition is another technique in the arsenals of app developers. The latest one, claiming to set a new standard in mobile biometrics, is FaceTec’s ZoOm.
Heralded as the first universal 3D facial authentication software solution, ZoOm is capable of verifying identity, three-dimensionality, and liveness using a single front-facing selfie camera. According to the company, when integrated with any mobile app, ZoOm eliminates the need for passwords while significantly improving security.
Going beyond basic identification to verify the user, the application uses proprietary patent-pending TrueLiveness technology. FaceTec claims this technology is the industry’s only biometric that measures the change in perspective distortion from up to 30 selfie video frames, proving three-dimensionality. Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO of FaceTec, reports, “Fingerprint sensors and iris scanners haven’t replaced passwords because they lack the ability to detect human liveness, leaving them susceptible to spoofs. ZoOm detects liveness, is virtually spoof-proof, and can turn the billions of iOS and Android smart devices in use today into biometric authenticators.”
In addition to working in all lighting conditions, ZoOm features an intuitive interface and takes less than two seconds to authenticate the correct user. It is available in over 30 languages, supports all devices running iOS 8.3+ and Android 4.3+, is FIDO® and iBeta certified, and achieves an excellent False Acceptance Rate (FAR) of over 1/50,000. The app publisher’s cloud password storage liability is eliminated because the user's biometric data is completely processed, encrypted, and securely saved on their own device during authentication.
The ZoOm Software Development Kit (SDK) is available now to all mobile app developers with plugins for Xamarin, Appcelerator/Titanium, Phonegap, Cordova, Ionic, and React Native. The SDK is available free to startups, developers and small businesses with less than $10 million in annual revenue, as well as for non-profit and educational organizations. For larger organizations, enterprise and government ZoOm is billed on a per-user, per-month basis. The fully functional ZoOm UX demo app is available for evaluation on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store under “ZoOm Login”.
