The SX9300 from Semtech Corp., Camarillo, CA, is an ultra-low-power capacitive proximity sensor with an on-chip specific absorption rate (SAR) engine for human body detection. The dual-channel design has built-in human body discrimination based on two sets of sensors, optimized for multiple-axis proximity detection with tiny sensor areas. The device operates from a 2.7–5.5 V supply and consumes 18 µA in doze mode, 170 µA in active mode, and 2.5 µA in sleep mode. Proximity short-range detection is programmable. Applications include SAR-compliant systems, tablet PCs, ebooks, portable gaming devices, notebooks, mobile phones, and mobile hotspots.
