AppliedMicro and Canonical to Present the World's First Production Software Deployment on ARM 64-bit Servers

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation and Canonical will demonstrate Icehouse, the latest OpenStack release using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in a KVM virtualized environment on an X-Gene(TM) -based server rack, using Juju, MAAS and charms to orchestrate applications, databases and services. Onboard applications will include Elasticsearch, SugarCRM, Kibana, Logstash, Hadoop and MediaWiki. The demonstration is a significant proof point that leading scale-out cloud services are available on 64-bit ARM architecture.

The demonstration builds on AppliedMicro's pioneering efforts in the development of ARM 64-bit server technology and comes on the heels of the company's inclusion in Canonical's Ubuntu OpenStack Interoperability Lab (OIL). OIL makes it easier for ecosystem partners like AppliedMicro to assure the compatibility of the company's category-defining X-Gene Server on a Chip(TM) solution with the world's leading open cloud platform.

In addition to a joint presentation from AppliedMicro and Canonical, AppliedMicro will discuss the product roadmap for the disruptive X-Gene SoC Cloud Server(TM) solution. This includes production of X-Gene and updates on X-Gene 2.

Following the formal presentation, several Taiwan-based ODMs will showcase systems built on X-Gene during an expo session. The invitation-only event, hosted by Digitimes, will take place at the Le Meridien Hotel in Taipei on May 30 at 9 a.m.
