The MAX11210 from Maxim Integrated Products Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, is a single-channel, 24-bit ADC with 23.9-bit ENOB at <300 µA. The device offers 4 general-purpose I/O lines (GPIO) and integrates buffer amplifiers on the analog and reference inputs. The four GPIO lines can be used to control an external 16-channel multiplexer, effectively converting the device into a 16-channel ADC. Integrated buffers eliminate the need for external buffers or gain stages. The higher ENOB lets the ADC meet the tight power budget required for 4–20 mA loop-powered sensors. Applications include portable instrumentation, temperature sensors, and other precision sensor applications that require low power consumption.
