The organizing committee of the MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems) /Sensors Workshop Vietnam 2017 has announced a call for abstracts to support the inaugural MEMS/Sensors Workshop Vietnam 2017 that will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on November 8th and 9th, 2017. The technical program will feature international recognized experts in the field of MEMS and sensors technology and applications. The theme of the program, “MEMS/Sensors Enable the Enhancement of the Quality of Life for the Vietnam Nation”, will highlight this issue through the adoption of various MEMS and sensors most recent developments vis-à-vis a myriad of applications including e-health, water pollution, environmental monitoring and food production. A gala welcoming reception honoring the Workshop Committee and the speakers will take place on November 8th and the all-day technical conference on Nov. 9th. A post- Workshop reception will take place on November 9th. The Workshop has been organized by the Saigon Hi -Tech Park organization. All events will take place at Le Meridien Saigon Hotel in located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
Dr. Le Hoai Quoc, co-general chair of the Workshop and President of the Management Board of the Saigon Hi-Tech Park said…” we have been assessing various technologies that will play a significant role in increasing the quality of life for our Vietnam Nation’s citizens and have concluded that MEMS/sensors are a key element to achieving this objective. We are in the process of creating the Saigon Hi-Tech Park and wish to attract organizations that are currently addressing or plan to address any and all of the elements of an electronics systems…and MEMS/sensors developers are at the top of the list. We considered that organizing a technical workshop on the topic of MEMS/sensors would be an excellent vehicle to jump start the awareness process of effectively communicating the enabling nature of sensor technology and its widespread applications….especially as they relate to our ecosystem. As a further benefit, we expect that Saigon Hi-Tech Park after 15-year establishment will create many high paying high tech jobs for the community”.
Tom Nguyen, Founder and CEO of DunAn Sensing (San Jose, California) and co-general chair said…”as a founder and co-founder of at least two start-up companies in Silicon Valley and having played several key roles in the sensor/MEMS industry over the past 30 years, I have helped especially from a manufacturing perspective to bring many sensors to market that address a variety of applications. I consider the upcoming Workshop to be an excellent forum to educate the various Vietnam communities to the enabling nature of MEMS/sensors to create products that play important roles in our ecosystem. I have known Roger Grace, the Workshop Technical Chair for over 30 years and consider him to be the leading sensor marketer in the world. His longstanding contributions to the sensors community were recognized by Sensors Magazine with the bestowing of the first inaugural “Sensor Industry Impact Award” in June of 2016. I recommended his appointment to the Workshop Organizing Committee to create a powerful and informative technical program….and they enthusiastically accepted my recommendation. Recently, Roger and I collaborated to assess what technologies and applications would be of interest to the Vietnamese audience and have concluded that MEMS technology needed to be highlighted as well as some of its high growth application sectors. We expect that the commercialization of MEMS as well as other sensor technologies and their associated products would be able to create a positive impact on the quality of life of the Vietnam Nation. We are anticipating that we will receive much support for the local, S.E. Asia and International community in responding to our call for abstracts and that we will attract many individuals to the Workshop, the first of its kind in Vietnam.
Roger Grace, President of Roger Grace Associates (Naples, Florida) said…” I am honored and quite gratified to have been asked to help develop and organize a MEMS/sensors workshop in Vietnam. I have created several dozen of these sensor technical workshops internationally over my 35 plus years of sensor industry involvement, but never one in Vietnam and never on such a compelling topic. After a brief assessment of the dynamics of the Vietnamese economy and the role that technology has played to date, I believe that there are many opportunities for Vietnam-based organizations to produce MEMS/sensor products. The Workshop will act a showcase of some of the most interesting recent MEMS/sensor developments and their associated applications. It should act as a catalyst to encourage the Vietnamese Government, industrialists, academics, entrepreneurs and investors to take a close look at the possible business opportunities that the successful realization of MEMS/sensors commercialization could directly benefit Vietnam economy. I believe the topic of quality of life enhancement vis-à-vis the adoption of MEMS/sensors will bring out many interesting and compelling abstracts that will address recent practical and pragmatic developments of these technology and application topics. I consider this Workshop to be a significant first step to “jump start” the commercialization efforts in the MEMS/sensor initiative in Vietnam”.
A call for abstracts (400 words in length) is now open. Abstracts are due on September 5th, 2017. Please send the abstract, as a PDF attachment, to the Workshop Technical Committee Chair, Roger Grace at [email protected]. The abstracts will be receive a peer-review conducted by the abstract review committee. Notification of acceptance will be made on September 22nd, 2017. A formal proceedings paper will not be required. A Power Point presentation of approximately 45 minutes will be required and will be due on October 20th, 2017.
Topics to be addressed include practical and pragmatic recent developments in MEMS/sensor technologies and applications that enable the enhancement of the quality of life for the ecosphere including:
- Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart City Infrastructure
- Environmental monitoring
- Water quality monitoring
