The first two chapters deal with PC basics and I/O expansion systems. Chapter 3 covers the facilities offered by PC operating systems, including DOS and various flavors of Windows. Chapter 4 discusses programming techniques and chapters 5 through 7 are devoted to assembly, BASIC, and C/C++ languages.

Chapter 8 introduces the IEEE-488 instrument bus, Chapter 9 deals with interfacing analog and digital signals to the PC, and Chapter 10 discusses Virtual Instruments. The final chapters discuss the various popular commercial software packages for specific DA and instrumentation requirements, how to specify the system you need for your particular task, and, finally, reliability and fault tolerance.

The book is clearly written and is blessed with many, many charts, tables, and handy photographs. If you're looking for a good book on PC-based DA, you should check this one out.
