Designed to eliminate interfacing challenges associated with position sensors in industrial servo and ac-inverter drives, the TMS320F28379D and TMS320F28379S microcontrollers (MCUs) team up with DesignDRIVE Position Manager technology to provide what’s deemed as the industry's first on-chip solution supporting both analog and digital position sensors. The trio enable simple interfacing to position sensors and reportedly improve system performance by completing the decode tasks on-chip and reducing the communication latency, enabling faster control loop performance. In addition, they decrease system cost by reducing the board area required in FPGA or ASIC-based designs. Position Manager gives developers access to the base functionality needed to interface to EnDat2.2, BiSS-C, Resolver and SIN/COS sensors. The TMS320F28379D and TMS320F28379S MCUs are available for immediate sampling starting at $17.20 per 1,000. DesignDRIVE Kit (TMDXIDDK379D), which includes both the hardware and software, goes for $999.
