Image Sensor Is The New Eye In Security Cameras

It goes without saying that security is big concern lately for all the usual reasons plus a few no one was really thinking about 16 years ago. As a result, the demand for seriously accurate and durable surveillance devices is on an inclined plane going up at a 45° angle.

High on the list of devices is security cameras. These need to be highly accurate, and reliable, because their recordings may end up as evidence in the court system. And they need to be durable because they reside sometimes in unfriendly environments.

On the accuracy and quality side, Renesas Electronics has unveiled an 8.48 Mpixel CMOS image sensor that supports 4K video cameras. The RAA462113FYL sensor, it should be mentioned, is quite versatile in its durability, suiting applications in financial establishments, transportation systems, and commercial establishments.

In all applications, the variation of light levels over a full day must be taken into consideration. The RAA462113FYL CMOS image sensor comfortably manages imaging under these environmental conditions. As per its maker, it delivers reliable low-light performance, high resolution at high data rates, high dynamic range, and 4K video at 60 fps. Additionally, it supports a line-by-line high dynamic range (HDR) mode.  When in HDR mode, long and short exposure data are output separately for each line.

If surveillance cameras are your meat and potatoes, you might consider the RAA462113FYL. Although, thumbing through some of the features, this sensor looks like it would be comfortable in other apps as well, including industrial, low-line machine vision, artificial intelligence, and others. Samples of the RAA462113FYL are available now, and mass production ramps up in December.
