Extending its embedded video engine (EVE) product offerings, Bridgetek introduces the BT815/6 series graphic controller ICs for next generation human machine interface (HMI) development. Support for the Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression (ASTC) algorithm means that image quality can be significantly enhanced without increasing bandwidth as the compression algorithm allows for smaller compressed files. As a result, the devices can save significant memory space when processing larger fonts and data-heavy images.
Further memory management and system resource improvements come in the form of a dedicated QSPI host port for attaching an external flash memory. As an additional port this frees up the main system QSPI port used to control the BT815/816 devices from memory copy tasks, reducing the workload on the system MCU.
The BT816 offers support for displays with four-wire resistive touchscreens, while the BT815 is intended for use in conjunction with capacitive touchscreens and can deliver multi-touch operation with support for up to five touch points. Both devices support 800 x 600 resolution and have video playback capabilities. The integrated hardware engine can recognize touch tags (providing notification for up to 255 tags) and accurately track touch movement. It also supports customized built-in widgets and functionalities - such as ASTC decode, jpeg decode and calibration.
Other features include a programmable interrupt controller, sound synthesizer, audio wave playback for mono 8-bit linear PCM, four-bit ADPCM and µ-Law sound encoding at sampling frequencies between 8 kHz to 48 kHz, and digital filtering. The BT815 and BT816 EVE devices come in 64-pin VQFN-packages with an operational temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. For more information, peruse the FBT815/6 spec page and the FBT815/6 datasheet.
