Chi Minh City, Vietnam…September 25, 2017…Under the assignment and grant from Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Mr. Le Hoai Quoc Ph. D. - President of Saigon Hi-Tech Park, has officially announced the founding of MEMS/Sensors Forum- Ho Chi Minh City. Together with strong support and sponsorship by Mr. Le Viet Hai - President and CEO of Hoa Binh Corp., Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lap – President and CEO of Tien Phuoc Corp., Mr. Nguyen Minh Hieu – President and CEO of SSC, and Mr. Tom Nguyen, CEO of US sensor company DunAn Sensing (San Jose, CA), and others have announced the final program for the First Annual MEMS/Sensors Commercialization Workshop to take place at the Le Meridien Saigon tel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on November 9, 2017. The 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. technical program will feature several world-class experts from the United States who will address various Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and sensors the application of which will enable an enhanced quality of life for the Vietnamese citizen. Applications to be addressed include the Internet of Things (IoT) as applied to smart cities/green cities using environmental monitoring, electronic-medicine (e-medicine) and Agri-tech/Aqua-tech. Additionally, an introduction and overview of MEMS/sensors evolution and future opportunities in Vietnam will be given by Mr. Tom Nguyen. A presentation on technology cluster development and resulting economic benefits will be given by Mr. Roger Grace President of Roger Grace Associates (Naples, Florida) and Forum technical chairman, will complete the program. Attendees including investors, corporate management, technologists, academics/students and governmental administrators are encouraged to attend this all-day event to be presented with the most current and significant information on technologies and applications for MEMS/sensors. A pre-event cocktail party/reception will take place on November 8, 2017 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Le Meridien tel in Ho Chi Minh City. A Gala Dinner will be organized for all participants on evening November 9, 2017. Registration information, presentation abstracts and presenters’ bios can be obtained at the Workshop website…. http://mems.shtpvn.org.
The Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the Peoples’ Committee intention is to launch a comprehensive plan to effectively transform the country and the city from a top producer of electronic components to a major player in the global digital economy. The project aims to launch a significant number of internationally competitive technology firms and eventually turn Ho Chi Minh City into a major technology hub. The Party Secretary of HCMC, Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, has confirmed that he is most interested in successfully emulating the creation of a Silicon Valley USA model for HCMC. The Workshop’s objectives highly correlate with the policy of the Ho Chi Minh City leadership which is to foster the participation and dialog between various stakeholders including governments, the scientific and academic communities in addition to enhance the awareness of the enabling nature of MEMS/sensor technologies to solve many of the world’s problems including the elimination of hunger, insufficient/ineffective/costly medical care, excessive pollution and wasteful energy policies. All of these issues were recently addressed in the New York Times best-selling novel, “Abundance: The Future is Better than You Think”, co-authored by Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler.
“The MEMS Workshop will be an excellent and effective opportunity for developers working in the field of MEMS/sensors and their applications and people interested in this high tech sector to meet personally and share their knowledge, experiences and mutual interests. It is also expected to provide an enlightened and informed understanding as to the viability and importance of creating a MEMS/sensor technology infrastructure as the catalyst of the creation of a critical commercialization vehicle in Vietnam” stated Mr. Le Hoai Quoc Ph. D., Workshop Chairman.
The leadership of Ho Chi Minh City is fully committed to create the most favorable conditions and environment possible to incentivize future investors in this field utilizing numerous incentives for this purpose. Therefore, the adoption of development and commercialization of MEMS/sensors is a major component in the realization of this goal. The Workshop is expected to be one of the decisive and first steps to “jump-start” this initiative in order to attain this goal.
ABOUT THE SAIGON HI-TECH PARK
Located in District 9 of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam, The Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) was established on October 24, 2002 by the Vietnamese Government. The Park is developed on an area of 913 hectares and includes two phases of development. With a strategic location which is in proximity of the city’s center, airport and sea ports and surrounded by 43 industrial parks and export processing zones of the Focal Economic Region of Southern Vietnam, the Park has full advantages to become a “technology and science city”, a heartland and spearhead of HCMC and the Vietnam nation. The Park was proudly the investment destination of projects from global hi-tech corporations including Intel (US), Nidec (Japan), Sanofi (France), Datalogic (Italy), Microchip (US), Sonion (Denmark) as well as from leading domestic educational institutions and companies including FPT Corp., Hutech, and Nanogen.
