Dual/Quad RF-Sampling Transceivers Enable Multiantenna Systems

Texas Instruments’ quad-channel AFE7444 and dual-channel AFE7422 RF-sampling transceivers are touted as the first in the industry to integrate four analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and four digital-to-analog converters (DACs) in a single chip. Boasting the industry's widest frequency range, highest instantaneous bandwidth and 75% smaller design footprint than a discrete solution, the quad-channel AFE7444 and dual-channel AFE7422 transceivers easily achieve multiantenna, direct RF sampling for radar, software defined radio and wireless 5G applications.

According to their maker, both devices enable engineers to achieve up to 600% more data throughput. While sampling up to 9 Gsamples/s per DAC and up to 3 Gsamples/s per ADC, the AFE7444 receives and transmits up to 800 MHz of information from each of the four antennae, and the AFE7422 receives and transmits 1.2 GHz from each of two antennae. Additionally, the devices enable the flexibility to design applications covering any frequency from10 MHz to 6 GHz.

Sensors 2019 Hits Silicon Valley June 25-27!

Join 7,000+ engineers this June in San Jose at the sensor industry’s biggest event! With 65+ Technical Sessions, 100+ Leading Speakers, 10 new and updated tracks, and 300+ Interactive Exhibits, there’s more opportunity than ever to connect with this booming industry and the technologies driving it. See thousands of the newest technologies in action, learn about the latest applications, and develop invaluable partnerships at the only event dedicated to sensors, connectivity, and systems.

In terms of space savings, the transceivers measure 17 mm x 17 mm. This is said to save up to 75% of board space compared to using discrete RF-sampling data converters. For more details, checkout the quad-channel AFE7444 and dual-channel AFE7422 datasheets.
