The WL27-3 from SICK Inc., Minneapolis, MN, is a reflex array photoelectric sensor that provides reliable leading-edge detection of irregularly-shaped objects. The sensor offers a 50 mm detection height, allowing it to detect any object 12 m or larger, regardless of object properties or position within the array. The device operates in reflex mode and features an alignment/teach procedure. A high-resolution version provides min. detectable object resolution down to 5 mm with 24 mm detection height. Applications include leading edge detection of products with tapered edges, bagged product, warped boards, and packaged product as well as continuous edge detection of multiheight objects.
