Game console technology oversold.
Nintendo's new Wii video game console has been promoted for months as requiring a "sensor bar" to operate. A video on YouTube demonstrates how the device actually works (it's nothing more than standard IR), while a posting on Engadget shows how to make a replacement. "Of course," Engadget says, ". . . you can bet that there'll be more than a few third-party (if not first-party) options finding their way to store shelves before too long."
