Vishay Releases SiP21110 250-mA LDO Voltage Regulator

October 10, 2008

The device offers 35-µA ground current, which extends battery run times in portable electronics, and provides adjustable output and 1.0 % output voltage accuracy in a SOT23-5L package.

MALVERN, PA /Marketwire/ -- Vishay Intertechnology Inc. extended its LDO product family portfolio with the release of the new SiP21110 250-mA LDO voltage regulator. The cost-effective device features a 35-µA typical ground current at a 1-mA load in the space-saving SOT23-5L package.

The SiP21110's ultra-low ground current helps to extend battery run times between charges in battery-operated power systems and portable electronics, such as cell phones and wireless handsets, PDAs, digital cameras, pagers, wireless modems, and medical handheld devices.

The SiP21110 features adjustable output from 1.3 V to 5 V, with an external resistor network and a 1.0% output voltage accuracy at 25°C. Its advanced design architecture allows stable operation with very small low-ESR ceramic output capacitors, reducing board space and component cost. Additional SiP21110 features include excellent transient response, low peak-to-peak transient output voltage with fast recovery time, as well as high PSRR, while consuming a minimum of current.

The device is designed to maintain regulation while delivering 330-mA typical peak current for systems with a high surge current upon turn-on. During start-up, an active pull-down circuit improves the output transient response and regulation. In shutdown mode, the output automatically discharges by connecting the output to ground through a 100-ohm n-channel MOSFET.

For safe operation, the device offers thermal overload (160°C typical) and built-in short-circuit protection (500 mA typical), with a 1-µA maximum shutdown current at 85°C. The SiP21110 operates over a junction temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.
