Trimble Uses NAVTEQ Map Data for Fleet Management

July 6, 2006

Combination of GPS and digital map data enhances integrated, location-based vehicle tracking and routing systems.

CHICAGO /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, announced that Trimble Mobile Solutions (TMS) is using NAVTEQ as its digital map provider for the TMS TrimFleet family of products within North America. TMS uses NAVTEQ maps for its TrimWeb and TrimView solutions to improve fleet management operations and vehicle tracking efficiency.

Trimble's TrimFleet product line provides fleet owners with a range of productivity solutions, ranging from simple tracking and messaging to highly integrated, location-based status reporting. The TrimWeb and TrimView solutions are used by fleets that require a permanently installed in-vehicle device that can grow with the customer as their needs change. This is achieved through the addition of sensors and a messaging terminal. Using NAVTEQ maps, fleet owners are able to find the exact location of each of their vehicles to make sure they are routing them in the most efficient and cost-conscious way.

NAVTEQ employs "one of the industry's most comprehensive development and quality control programs for the highest levels of quality and precision." Executed by a team of more than 550 field researchers, the NAVTEQ database includes detailed attributes from turn restrictions and relative road-crossing heights to road-segment access restrictions, one-way streets, and speed categories that help optimize routing. Additionally, NAVTEQ maps include points of interest, including restaurants, hospitals, shopping centers, and leisure facilities, making it easier to locate and route to many different destinations.

"The use of NAVTEQ's data was driven by our commitment to provide the best-in-class products to our customers. Our customers are highly dependent on accurate location, statusing, and accurate maps," says Michael Granruth, vice president/engineering & product development, Trimble Mobile Solutions. "By offering our customers the highest level of map-data accuracy, we are confident that our products provide valuable tools to increase fleet efficiency."

"Trimble's product line demonstrates the realization of the high standards that fleet customers demand," commented Roy Kolstad, vice president and general manager-business and government solutions, NAVTEQ. "We believe this collaboration provides a compelling solution for the rigorous needs of this dynamic industry."
