SkyTel and Velocita Wireless MergeNovember 13, 2008
The newly launched M2M technology provider boasts ownership of industrial-class, nationwide, data-only wireless networks that support a wide range of applications, including paging and other wireless messaging solutions.
Herndon, VA -- The merged entity of SkyTel and its acquirer Velocita Wireless launched under the SkyTel name as a new company and an important participant in the machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless communications space. The company's goal is to meet the rapidly growing demand for network connectivity and services for the M2M industry. ABI Research predicts that M2M services revenue will rise from current levels of $2 billion to roughly $8.4 billion by 2012.
"SkyTel is the best-kept secret in the M2M space, and today that secret is officially out," said Mark Hull, CEO of SkyTel. "SkyTel enables businesses and government agencies to run M2M applications that make remote resources, such as fleet vehicles, parking and electric meters, thermostats, and point of sale terminals more efficient and productive. Through network ownership, quick provisioning and device certification, flexible pricing—and most importantly, a dedicated M2M focus, with the expertise to back it up—SkyTel's launch is precisely what the M2M sector needs."
SkyTel owns trusted, industrial-class, nationwide, data-only wireless networks, ideally positioning the company to capitalize on the red-hot growth of the M2M sector. In the past year, SkyTel has invested in a multi-million dollar network enhancement project, including switch upgrades and added redundancy to network architecture. There are over half a million M2M modules on SkyTel-owned networks today.
In addition, SkyTel can accommodate companies with applications that are better suited for broadband networks through relationships with GPRS and satellite providers. SkyTel seeks to be the single source partner for application developers and other M2M solution providers, delivering resources all along the value chain, from devices to software to integration through support and service.
SkyTel, an early pioneer in wireless data connections and a trusted brand among government and Fortune 1000 customers, continues its focus on paging as well. "We are excited about upcoming messaging and application product launches, as SkyTel re-establishes its leadership in paging and other wireless messaging solutions."
SkyTel provides industrial-grade wireless network connectivity and related services for M2M applications that gather intelligence from remote devices and mobile resources to make them more efficient, productive, and profitable. SkyTel is distinguished from other M2M providers by its ownership of proven nationwide narrowband data-only networks. SkyTel provides every component within the M2M value chain, including data transport, devices, software, integration, and comprehensive end-to-end solutions. And the company continues to grow its respected paging and messaging business. The new SkyTel is the merged entity of SkyTel and Velocita Wireless and is a wholly owned subsidiary of United Wireless Holdings Inc.
