Microchip Technology Inc., Chandler, AZ, offers the MRF24J40, a 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.15.4 RF transceiver; the ZENA wireless network analyzer tool; and the MiWi free small-footprint wireless networking protocol. The transceiver includes full MAC support, an AES hardware encryption engine and can be combined with roughly two hundred 8-bit and 16-bit PIC microcontroller and dsPIC DSCs. The ZENA IEEE 802.15.4 protocol analyzer is capable of decoding ZigBee and MiWi protocol packets and lets you configure Microchip's free ZigBee and MiWi protocol stacks. A network-configuration display window lets you see traffic in real time. The MiWi protocol provides a simpler, lower-cost option for people who don't need interoperability but still want to use IEEE 802.15.4 radios.
