For transferring ARCNET data over high-speed USB, Contemporary Control Systems Inc., Downers Grove, IL, offers the USB22 Series of network interface modules (NIMs). The NIMs allow connectivity between desktop or laptop computers to peripherals, providing a high-speed interface (up to 480 Mbps) without requiring a separate NIM to be inserted into the computer. The USB22 Series includes a microcontroller to transfer the data between ARCNET and USB and has up to 128 KB of ARCNET receiver buffering. The device is compatible with USB 2.0 and will also operate with USB 1.1.
