Online Development Launches cATM Module

October 5, 2007

The new unit connects Allen-Bradley PACs with installed PLCs without the need for programming.

KNOXVILLE, TN /BUSINESS WIRE/ -- Online Development's new cATM module helps users of Allen-Bradley SLC 500, PLC-2, and PLC-5 controllers connect to ControlLogix programmable automation controllers (PACs) without the need for time-consuming and expensive programming. The module helps companies simplify the addition of the latest PAC technology while protecting their investment in installed Allen-Bradley controllers.

The cATM module snaps into a ControlLogix PAC rack and provides bidirectional communications with installed PLCs through Ethernet, ControlNet, Data Highway Plus, or DH485 bridges. The module features an onboard browser-driven configuration tool to eliminate the need for writing message instructions and doesn't require added software or drivers.

The module is part of the Appliance Transaction Module (ATM) platform from Online Development, which includes enterprise, control, and device modules. Each module in this platform is an information-exchange appliance designed to simplify bidirectional communications between dissimilar factory floor or business system devices. They are designed to eliminate costly and time-consuming programming to bridge data gaps and are easily configured.

According to ARC Advisory Group Research Director Craig Resnick, "Technologies such as the cATM module provide simplified bridging solutions from installed controllers to advanced PACs for the real-time data collection and information needs of the plant floor. When integrated other technologies, such as the xCoupler enterprise transaction module, the cATM module plays an important role in enabling fast integration of plant floor devices and dynamic integration with business systems. This capability is critical as each process provides a vital link for real-time performance management, which uses dynamic performance targets to drive an enterprise to reach its optimum potential and achieve competitive advantage."
