MEMS Industry Group Continues to Expand Its Membership

July 19, 2006

New members include Amkor Technologies, Bennington Micro, Freescale Semiconductor, GE Global Research, and Umicore.

PITTSBURGH, /PRNewswire/ -- The MEMS Industry Group (MIG), the trade association representing the MEMS and microstructures industries, is pleased to announce the addition of five new members, during the second quarter of 2006, to its roster of over 70 industry-leading members. New members include Amkor Technologies, Bennington Micro, Freescale Semiconductor, GE Global Research, and Umicore.

MIG offers several benefits to its members, including unique networking opportunities, industry research reports, technical work groups, and PR and visibility on its Web site.

"As a leading supplier of MEMS-based sensors, Freescale understands the benefits and importance of innovative MEMS technology," said Demetre Kondylis, general manager of Freescale's sensors business. "Freescale is pleased to join MIG for closer collaboration with the MEMS community to accelerate commercialization."

Membership in the MEMS Industry Group has grown from six members at its inception in January 2001 to over 70 industrial members in July 2006, all of which are actively involved in the MEMS industry and in MIG initiatives.

Ellen McDevitt, executive director at MIG, commented on the new members. "We are growing our membership based on the fact that our focus is on commercialization and applications of MEMS technology. We want input from members who are not only making MEMS but who are using and integrating MEMS, and the new members reflect this."

About MEMS
MEMS is an approach to fabrication that uses, as a basis, the materials and processes of microelectronics fabrication and conveys the advantages of miniaturization, multiple components, and microelectronics to the design and construction of integrated microstructures and electromechanical systems. MEMS is an enabling technology that supports and creates numerous functions in diverse industries.

About MEMS Industry Group
The MEMS Industry Group (MIG) is the trade association representing the MEMS and microstructures industries. The association enables the exchange of nonpropriety information among members; provides reliable industry data that furthers the development of technology; and works with legislators, policymakers, and others toward the greater commercial development and use of MEMS and MEMS-enabled devices. MIG is currently comprised of over 70 member companies, including Texas Instruments, Honeywell, Intel, XACTIX, and Northrop Grumman. For more information, go to the group's Web site.
