Mars Inc. Implements New Quality-Control Software

July 14, 2008

The major pet and food products manufacturer has deployed InfinityQS' ProFicient to support its process-improvement initiatives.

CHANTILLY, VA /BUSINESS WIRE/ -- InfinityQS International, a leading provider of Statistical Process Control (SPC) software, announced that Mars Inc., a major producer of pet-care and food products, has deployed InfinityQS ProFicient software in a number of its North American sites to systematically improve product quality.

Mars' objective was to implement a real-time SPC solution that would provide the necessary tools for executing process-improvement initiatives in a flexible and user-friendly format. Mars quality professionals and plant managers will use the software's analysis capabilities to make proactive process-improvement decisions in real time.

"Mars' commitment to implementing best practices is helping us drive efficiency throughout our operations and is contributing to our aggressive growth objectives," said Andrew Moore, Quality Services Manager for Mars. "The InfinityQS system plays a vital role in our operational success by giving us the analysis tools to consistently deliver superior-quality products to the market."

Mars chose InfinityQS software because it offered them a greater depth and breadth of functionality than their legacy SPC system was providing. Because ProFicient is built on a relational database structure, users can quickly and easily manage thousands of parts in a single set-up, or project, as opposed to the hundreds or thousands of data files that other systems require users to configure. This database structure allows Mars to conduct comparative analysis of any part running across any process (machine) with just a few mouse clicks. With ProFicient, Mars now benefits from additional versatility in reporting features and increased accuracy in data analysis, as well as easier administration and a more user-friendly interface than the previous system.

"At InfinityQS, delivering quality solutions that help a world-class company like Mars produce superior products is our highest priority," said Michael A. Lyle, President and CEO of InfinityQS. "By bringing this powerful quality-control technology to Mars, InfinityQS will help the company maintain its status as an uncompromising standard for quality excellence."
