K-TEK Acquires KAB Instruments

February 28, 2007

Prairieville, LA -- K-TEK LLC, a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art level instrumentation, announced the acquisition of KAB Instruments Pty. Ltd. and their line of non-contact ultrasonic level measurement equipment. KAB, located in South Africa, serves the mining, plastics, pulp and paper, and aggregates industries with a robust family of ultrasonic transducers, transmitters, and controllers. Their high-accuracy devices provide precise level measurement over long ranges under challenging conditions, up to 60 m at 0.25% accuracy. A microprocessor design provides instant variable gain and power control of transmitted signals even when measuring foams and extreme dusty environments associated with solids, grains, and powders.

KAB currently operates in 53 countries around the world. Through this acquisition, K-TEK will offer all KAB products through K-TEK's distribution network in the Americas and in selected countries within Asia and the Middle East. In addition, K-TEK will maintain the current KAB distribution network with minor consolidation in selected countries. K-TEK and KAB will continue collaborating on technology development and sales distribution. KAB's managing director, Kevin Barnfather, will relocate to the USA and take on a key business development role by overseeing the global sales and marketing responsibilities for the complete ultrasonic product line. With the addition of KAB's non-contact ultrasonic product line, K-TEK will have multiple technologies available to meet any liquid or bulk solids level measurement requirements.

"K-TEK is pleased to welcome KAB Instruments to our growing level measurement family," stated Rao Sanampudi, K-TEK president and chief operating officer. "Our combined expertise in leading-edge product design, high quality manufacturing, and worldwide distribution provides customers with the right equipment, when and where it is needed. Our expanded technology base now offers customers the broadest range of level instruments in the industry, from magnetic level and guided wave radar to laser level and ultrasonic."
