Chem-Tag: A Next-Generation Personal Gas Detection Device to Protect Every First Responder

A novel concept for personal mobile devices as personal gas detectors is being jointly developed by the Department of Homeland Security and its industry partners. The goal is a device platform that is small, low-cost, and flexible enough to meet the needs of every First Responder in the nation.
● How recent advances in MEMS technology is enabling chemical detection in modern mobile devices, such as smartphones.
● How devices such as the Chem-Tag concept set the stage for practical commercial implementation of chemical sensors in every mobile phone, just as cameras and accelerometers are ubiquitous today.
