W5: SansEC - A New Wireless Sensor Platform

Most sensors consist of components assembled using electrical connections. In contrast, SansEC sensors are patterns of electrically conductive material (such as a simple copper coil) that can store electric or magnetic fields without electrical connections. The sensors are powered using oscillating magnetic fields from a low power transponder and respond with their own magnetic field. The return signal provides information about the measured parameters of interest, such as temperature, pressure, location, etc., all without contact or electrical connections. In this presentation, we will introduce the technical basis for the new approach and provide some examples of applications so far demonstrated.
