Texas Instruments (TI) Inc., Dallas, TX, offers the CC2520, a second-generation ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 RF transceiver designed to operate in the 2.4 GHz ISM frequency band. Typically, the CC2520 will be used together with a microcontroller; the CC2520 reduces the load on the host controller by providing hardware support for packet handling, data buffering, burst transmissions, data encryption and authentication, clear channel assessment, link quality indication, and packet timing information. The device operates from a 1.8–3.8 V supply and features a 103 dB link budget (400 m LOS range with development kit) and 50 dB adjacent channel rejection.
