The S-WDA-M003 from Onset Computer Corp., Bourne, MA, is a research-grade sensor for measuring and logging wind data. The device has a measurement range of 0°–355° with a 5° dead band, ±5° accuracy, and 1.4° resolution. The sensor can survive winds to 60 m/s (134 mph), operates in temperatures from –40°C to 70°C, and has a 4–6 yr. service life, depending on environmental conditions. The plug-and-play sensor provides average wind direction for the measurement interval, calculating a unit vector average of the wind direction. The sensor also has a drop overhang for anti-icing.
