The AURAS-3000 from the ORTEC Products Group, AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology, Oak Ridge, TN, is a free-release waste assay counter for handling bulk quantities of low-level radioactive waste prior to disposal. The system can handle up to 3 cubic meters and up to 3000 kg of waste and provides full quantitative assay of all detectable gamma emitters with non-gamma emitter estimates by correlated scaling factors. It also offers individual and average activity and MDA reporting. The system incorporates four of the company's Interchangeable Detector Modules (IDMs) that each use an 85 mm dia., high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector cooled by a Stirling-cycle cooler and incorporating advanced digital signal processing.
