The HRLV-MaxSonar-EZ ultrasonic rangefinder from MaxBotix Inc., Brainerd, MN, is <1 in.3, weighs 4.3 g, has a 5 m range, and 1 mm resolution. Other features include target size compensation; simultaneous automatic multisensory operation; rejection of outside noise sources; internal temperature compensation; optional external temperature compensation; and TTL, RS-232, PWM, and analog voltage outputs. With TTL and RS-232 outputs, typical error is ±0.1% at 1 m distance; pulse-width output has a stability of ±0.2%; the rail-to-rail analog voltage output has 5 mm resolution.
