Morgan Technical Ceramics, Stourport, U.K., offers a tube contact sensor for accurate detection of occlusions in medical infusion lines. The MEMS pressure sensor has a precision machined lid and catch. It is suitable for a 4–4.7 mm o.d. by 0.8 mm wall thickness medical-grade silicone rubber tubing and can detect both negative and positive pressure changes from 0.5–1 bar with ±0.05 bar accuracy. The sensor provides noninvasive detection of pressure changes in a flexible tube without requiring disposable cassettes and provides medical device OEMs with a simple, reliable method for detecting when the tube is blocked.
