The Xtrinsic 12-bit MMA8652FC and 10-bit MMA8653FC from Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, are high-performance, low-power MEMS triaxial accelerometers for use in smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, portable navigation devices, and health-care applications. The devices offer 1 mg/LSB sensitivity; 156 µg/√Hz noise, independent of resolution; a 1.95–3.6 V supply voltage; 6 µA current draw in low-power mode; a 1.5–800 Hz output data rate; 2 programmable interrupt pins for 7 interrupt sources; and orientation detection with hysteresis. The MMA8652FC has embedded motion detection for free-fall or motion, pulse, and jolt; automatic output data rate change for auto-wake/sleep; and self-test. The MMA8652FC has an embedded 32-sample FIFO buffer.
