Avago Technologies, San Jose, CA, offers the HEDM-5540 three-channel encoder with resolutions up to 1000 counts/rev., for use in printer, plotter, tape drive, positioning table, and automatic handler applications. Features include a 2-channel quadrature output with an optional index pulse, TTL-compatible output, 30 by 41.1 by 18.3 mm size, frequency response up to 100 kHz, quick and easy assembly, and an operating temperature range from –40°C to 100°C. The index output is a 90° high true index pulse generated once per full rotation of the codewheel. The device includes a lensed LED source, an IC with detectors and output circuitry, and a high-temperature Mylar codewheel.
