Three Axis Digital Compass Achieves 0.5º Heading Accuracy

Honeywell’s HMR3601 tilt-compensated, three-axis digital compass specifies a 0.5º typical heading accuracy and employs a unique gyro stabilization to reduce the effects of magnetic disturbances. Maximum heading error is 1° at levels from 0º to 50°C. Other features include a ±80° pitch and roll range, less than 0.5° tilt accuracy, and an RS-232 interface. In a compact and rugged, 1” x 1.04” x 0.54” module, target applications include handheld and worn optics, wearable information systems, vehicle heading, target locator heading, antenna pointing, weather station heading, and UAV/AUV heading.
