The 3 by 5 by 0.8 mm MMA7450L 3-axis accelerometer from Freescale Semiconductor, Austin, TX, is suited for adding motion-based user interfaces for cell phones, portable media devices, and game controllers and for freefall hard disk drive protection. The accelerometer offers selectable sensitivity (±2 g, ±4 g, or ±8 g) with 64 LSB/g sensitivity at 2 g and 8 g (10-bit mode), current draw of 400 μA, standby current of 5 μA, operation from 2.4–3.6 V, the ability to survive shocks up to 10,000 g, and programmable threshold interrupt output. Output is I2C and SPI.
