The NavSpec Plus from Forston Labs, Fort Collins, CO, is a spectrophotometer and fluorometer that lets you collect a full wavelength spectrum (absorbance, percent transmittance, or intensity) in <1 s. Once the peak wavelength is determined, you can determine the solution's concentration or monitor rates of reaction. Optical range is 380–950 nm (VIS-NIR), optical resolution is 2.5 nm, and meter size is 15 by 9 by 4 cm. Applications include conducting Beer's law investigations, kinetic studies of absorbance vs. time, equilibrium studies of absorbance vs. time or absorbance vs. concentration, and colorimetric or fluorescent bioassays.
