NI 1722 and NI 1742 smart cameras from National Instruments, Austin, TX, are embedded devices that combine an industrial controller with an image sensor and can integrate with the company's vision software for image processing directly on the cameras. Vision Builder for Automated Inspection is included for configuring, benchmarking, and deploying machine vision applications without programming. The NI 1722 uses a 400 MHz PowerPC processor and the NI 1742 has a 533 MHz processor. A monochrome VGA SONY CCD image sensor is used in both. Other features include built-in industrial I/O, 2 opto-isolated digital inputs, 2 opto-isolated digital outputs, an RS-232 serial port, and 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
