Series 3991 and 3993 MEMS-based, miniature, high-amplitude, 20,000 g shock accelerometers from PCB Piezotronics Inc., Aerospace & Defense Div., Depew, NY, are for aerospace, defense, and product testing applications. The sensors are available in single-axis or triaxial configurations and have DC response. They can measure long-duration transient motion and respond to and survive fast rise times. The air-damped acceleration sensing element is 2.5 by 1.7 by 0.9 mm and incorporates a seismic mass, protective overrange stops, and a full-active Wheatstone bridge. Other features include a titanium housing and integral Kevlar cable. Applications include fuze/safe and arm applications; penetrator tests; crash/impact testing; metal-to-metal impacts; drop testing; blast loading of structures; and testing consumer electronic products.
