The seven new LMP900xx sensor analog front-ends (AFEs) from National Semiconductor Corp., Santa Clara, CA, are 24- and 16-bit multichannel ICs that provide an easy-to-configure signal path system for interfacing sensors to microcontrollers. The devices work with the company's WEBENCH Sensor AFE Designer software tool and development system and feature either a 24-bit or 16-bit sigma delta ADC with a programmable input configuration that interfaces up to 4 differential inputs or 7 single-ended inputs in any combination of input types. Features include true background calibration at all gains, channels independently configurable for gain and sample rate, and continuous background sensor diagnostics. They are targeted at precision sensing systems used to monitor and control temperature, pressure, load, force, motion/position, and voltage in industrial, medical, and test and measurement applications.
