The HS35F family of incremental hollowshaft encoders from Baumer Ltd., Southington, CT, is now available with an integrated enhanced monitoring system (EMS) that signals when it detects a potential failure of the encoder. When the encoder is activated, a microprocessor continuously monitors the device throughout its speed range; status LEDs provide a visual signal of encoder status and an alarm provides the master controller with a message about the malfunction if a potential failure is detected. The encoders are suited for heavy equipment and motor and drive control in oil and gas processing, wind power, food and beverage processing, metalworking, printing, packaging, material handling, solar/PV module manufacturing, textile processing, and wood/lumber processing applications.
