Synapse, Huntsville, AL, offers its RF Engine wireless module that has a range of up to 3 miles and is used to power the company's SNAP (Synapse network appliance protocol) and ZigBee wireless networks. The small, low-power plug-in RF transmitter/receiver module is available with or without amplification, with an internal antenna, with an external SMA antenna, and running SNAP or a full ZigBee stack. Features include 18 dBm power amplifier, 10 dBm receive amplifier, 125 dBm link budget, and a serial AT interface. Communication is via serial AT commands.
