The Guidepost Cell indoor location detection infrastructure from ROHM Semiconductor, San Diego, CA, developed in collaboration with Ritsumeikan University and Information Services International - Dentsu Ltd., supplies precise positional data to smartphones and other mobile devices. The device helps the mobile devices to determine a user's location inside buildings, underground malls, and other interior areas using ROHM's dye-sensitized solar cells to harvest energy from indoor lights and low-power WiFi 802.11-compliant wireless beacon protocol transmission for low-power, high-accuracy location detection.
