The SensorEyeC MLX75304 from Melexis, Ieper, Belgium, and Concord, NH, is a light-to-frequency converter designed for dimming LCDs, mobile phone and notebook screens, instrument-panel dimming, and headlight control. The monolithic integrated sensor combines the photodiode, transimpedance amplifier, and output stage and offers 120 dB dynamic range, light input from 0.1–100,000 lux, 1 Hz to 1 MHz frequency output, a 3 by 3 mm SMD package, 260°C solder reflow compatibility, and an operating temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.
