The laser-based Microgage 2D system from Pinpoint Laser Systems, Peabody, MA, measures the flatness of machinery and production equipment with precision of 0.0001 in. and can operate over distances ranging from a few inches to 120 ft. The system can also be used to level and check machinery that may be exhibiting high wear characteristics. The battery-powered system combines a compact laser transmitter with a receiver and a digital display; as the laser moves across the receiver either horizontally or vertically, the display shows a reading of the motion, accurate to 0.0001 in.
