Integrated Proximity Sensor from Vishay Intertechnology

The VCNL3020 from Vishay Intertechnology Inc., Malvern, PA, is a fully integrated proximity sensor that combines an IR emitter, photo-pin-diode, signal processing IC, and 16-bit ADC in a 4.85 by 2.35 by 0.83 mm package. Features include an I2C bus interface, interrupt function, integrated external emitter driver, 16-bit effective resolution for proximity detection, crosstalk immunity, programmable LED drive current from 10–200 mA in 10 mA steps, sensing distances up to 200 mm and to >1 m when the integrated emitter driver is used, and standby current consumption of 1.5 µA. Applications include use in mobile devices for touchscreen locking and as an optical switch for computing, industrial devices, and displays.
