Designed for static-air applications, the Ice-Meister Model 9734 from New Avionics Corp., Fort Lauderdale, FL, is an industrial ice detector for use in applications such as irrigation controls for agriculture and golf courses, heliports, refrigerators, thermometers, rain gauges, and roadway signs. The tiny optical device can operate as a digital ice/no ice indicator once it is tuned for the application. At maximum sensitivities sensitivities, the sensor detects the incipient formation of any kind of ice while at minimum sensitivities, it distinguishes heavy ice from slightly heavier ice and detects the point at which rain has turned to ice.
