The AD8232 from Analog Devices Inc., Norwood, MA, is a low-power, single-lead heart-rate monitor analog front end (AFE) for a range of vital sign monitoring applications. Designed to meet the ECG signal conditioning requirements of emerging fitness, portable/wearable monitoring, and remote health monitoring equipment, the device incorporates a 2-pole adjustable high-pass filter, 3-pole adjustable low-pass filter, operational (gain) amplifier, a reference buffer, right-leg drive circuit, shutdown function, and user-selectable (AC or DC) leads-off detect circuitry that provides an alert to the system when an electrode is disconnected from the patient or user. Supply current is 180 µA, noise is 20 µVp-p (0.5–40 Hz), and CMRR is 80 dB (DC to 60 Hz).
