The DLS300 from Meta Vision Systems Ltd., Eynsham, U.K., is a 3D digital laser scanner for use in automated welding equipment. Conventional laser vision systems use a laser stripe projected onto the target. This is processed by a 2D area camera to produce a 3D profile of the target. The DLS300 is based on a scanning spot rather than a strip, allowing you to implement automatic gain control to compensate for reflectivity changes. Its use of a linear charge-coupled device for imaging looks only at the region of interest and is unaffected by reflections. Features include a programmable field of view, independence of the sensor's depth of field from its width of field, and an Ethernet connection.
