The BMC050 from Bosch Sensortec GmbH, Reutlingen, Germany, is a triaxial geomagnetic sensor plus a triaxial accelerometer sensor in a 3 by 3 mm LGA package for compass-based functions in cell phones, navigation devices, and other mobile devices. The magnetic sensor uses the FlipCore measurement principle that requires around a third of the power of Hall-based measurement techniques and features 0.3 µT sensitivity and power consumption of 0.54 mA during normal operation. The sensor developers have provided the device with sophisticated evaluation algorithms as well as software for integrating the eCompass into your host application. The FlipCore sensor offers ~0.5° angular resolution at 1000 µT measurement field. (In the U.S., 650-812-8021, steve.wahl@bosch-sensortec.com, www.bosch-sensortec.com)
