The 1.2 by 1.7 by 1.0 mm MXC6226XC from MEMSIC Inc., Andover, MA, is a MEMS 2-axis digital accelerometer that uses the company's patented thermal MEMS technology. The device integrates extensive signal conditioning circuitry, including a DSP for improved motion sensing. It can survive shocks up to 50,000 g, detect 4 orientation positions, offers shake detection, and can measure acceleration over a ±2 g range with an absolute 0 g offset of <±50 mg. Features include an I2C interface; 2.5–5.5 V operating voltage, operating temperature range of –20°C to 70°C; and power-down capability. Applications include cell phones, toys, games, cameras, and appliances.
