The SR-61 collision sensor from ATI Industrial Automation, Apex, NC, is for use with 3–5 kg capacity robots and is designed to prevent damage to robotic end-effectors resulting from robot crashes. The sensor is designed to absorb the crash and reset itself, reducing tool damage and lost training or production time. Features include rotational and axial motion, high repeatability, energy absorption, rugged design, consistent breakaway points, automatic reset, dynamically variable trip points, and quick-response crash detection. A 3-wire PNP proximity switch is set to actuate within 0.020 in. of axial motion.
