Princeton Instruments, Trenton, NJ, offers its MegaPlus cameras with a GigE Vision data interface for demanding vision applications. The cameras have resolution ranges from 1.6–16 Megapixels. The GigE Vision interface eliminates the need for frame grabbers and supports data transmission over standard Cat5e or Cat6 cables up to 100 m in length. The company's cameras have onboard FPGA-based image-processing capabilities, reducing CPU load and leaving CPU cycles available for vision instrumentation or complex data processing. Applications include semiconductor inspection, particle imaging velocimetry, ophthalmology, and aerial imaging.
